Ryan Kelly on wiretapping Anthony Richardson: That's not the standard

Colts center Ryan Kelly and coach Shane Steichen both had conversations with quarterback Anthony Richardson about whether they would play in a game on Sunday.

Richardson left the game for a third-and-goal play in the third quarter and admitted afterward that he “tired.”

Steichen called it a “learning moment” for the second-year quarterback.

Richardson was angered by sports talk, fans and former players for quitting the game after back-to-back altercations. It didn't go down well in the locker room either.

“We had a conversation about it and I think he knows this is not the standard He has to keep up and the rest of the team has to keep up with him too,” Kelly said via video from 107.5 The Fan's Kevin Bowen. “I'll leave the conversation we had at that. I know he's going to take a lot of criticism for this, and rightly so, it's a harsh look. But he's also out there giving his all for his team, right? Sometimes it's not always pretty. There's been an insulting lull over the last few weeks and I've found it difficult to get going at times. I think we did some good things in the game. If anyone asks how hard he plays, I don't think that's the case. If you look at his film, we certainly didn't move the ball effectively at times, but he gives his all for his teammates. He is young. I’m sure it’s a learning moment for him and I’ll leave it at that.”

Joe Flacco replaced Richardson for a handoff on third-and-goal from the Houston 23, and the Colts kicked a field goal.

Richardson has completed just 44.4 percent of his passes for 958 yards with four touchdowns and seven interceptions, and Steichen hasn't committed to him this week.
