Giants RT was roasted by the internet after giving up multiple sacks to TJ Watt following “Island” comments

New York Giants right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor wanted TJ Watt on and “island.” As the saying goes, and as we warned back then: Be careful what you wish for. By the end of Monday night, all he'll probably want to do is have a private island to escape the internet hatching his comments.

Watt took over the game in the second half of the Steelers' 26-18 win. He finished the game with seven tackles and two sacks, including a critical strip/sack fumble by Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, who got the ball back shortly after Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson fumbled it away. This ruined a golden opportunity for the Giants to end the game trailing by eight points. And it was an “Island” moment, Watt and Eluemunor 1 on 1 as Watt beat him at the edge.

Watt also drew a hold call against him, the only thing that prevented another sack from QB Daniel Jones.

For those who missed it or want the refresher, a confident Eluemunor told reporters last Thursday that he wanted to face Watt in Monday night's matchup.

“I love it. I told you I was the most confident guy in this locker room,” he told reporters via the Giants’ YouTube channel when asked if he would face Watt. “I think you can see that in my play this year. I want to be on an island with him all day.”

The Internet hasn't forgotten his comments. Starting with JJ Watt, who had the receipts ready for the moment.

Steelers DL DeMarvin Leal, who is currently on IR with a neck injury, got his shot with these two tweets.

And “Freezing Cold Takes” also got him going at full speed.

To be fair, Eluemunor is a competitive guy who has rightly developed over the course of his career. He has progressed from backup to starter, first with the Las Vegas Raiders and now with the Giants. His comments also served to help New York on the other side as the team struggled to find a left tackle to replace the injured Andrew Thomas. Former Steeler Chris Hubbard got the nod and was bumped by Alex Highsmith during the game. So Eluemunor tried to take the lead, hoping his play might be good enough to give New York's defense flexibility.

Watt had a relatively quiet start to the game, in part because the Giants paid special attention to him like any other offense. But when the game's crucial moves had to be made and the two were left on an island, Watt won the day.

After saying goodbye, Watt might head to an island and sip a few piña coladas for a job well done. It's probably best for Eluemunor not to check his Twitter mentions for the next few days.
