David Harris, one of the stars of the 1979 cult classic “The Warriors,” has died of cancer. He was 75.

Harris' daughter confirmed the actor's death to the New York Times, revealing how he died on Friday at his home in New York City after a battle with the disease.

He is best known for playing the headband-wearing Cochise in the film, which pitted gangs against each other on the gritty streets of New York in the 1970s.

A turf war for the ages breaks out, with the eponymous gang The Warriors at its center.

This gave Harris his big break before appearing in several more films in the 1980s, 90s and 2000s. On television, he appeared in episodes of Law & Order and NYPD Blue, as well as ER and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

After his death, tributes quickly poured in.

“Shocked and saddened by the passing of David Harris, aka the original Cochise in The Warriors,” Lin Manuel Miranda wrote on Instagram on Saturday. The Hamilton playwright recently wrote a concept album based on the Walter Hill-directed film.

“We celebrated and gave him flowers for his unforgettable performance just over a week ago,” Miranda continued, sharing a recent photo of the star.

“Grateful for this moment with him.” “Our hearts go out to his daughter and all his family and friends.”

Selma director Ava DuVernay also paid tribute to the film, writing in her own post: “Forward to him. May his journey be filled with light and love.”
