AP Top 25 college football rankings poll released after Week 9

3 minutes, 52 seconds Read

The latest AP Poll Top 25 rankings are in after Week 9 of college football, and there were some upsets after another wild weekend!

Oregon dominated again and once again maintained its place atop the Big Ten, which includes top contenders Ohio State and Penn State. In the SEC, Texas narrowly edged out, Alabama dominated, and Texas A&M is a real threat. The ACC and Big 12 have undefeated teams at the top, but there are other contenders lurking.

Let's take a look at the latest AP Poll top 25 rankings after Week 9.

Oregon might have had its best performance of the season with a 38-9 win over a top-20 Illinois team. The Ducks scored 35 points in the first half!

Here's a fun fact about QB Dillon Gabriel: With 295 yards on Saturday, he is now the second all-time leading passer in NCAA history. Oregon is now 3-0 against ranked opponents this year, which is pretty impressive.

Georgia needed a bye week after defeating Texas and putting itself back in the national title game. The Bulldogs were simply broken.

All-American guard Tate Ratledge could return next weekend against Florida, which would be a big boost. Could Kirby Smart's crew come out on top?

Penn State controlled the second half against Wisconsin, secured a decisive win in Madison and remained undefeated. However, the Nittany Lions lost QB Drew Allar and it remains to be seen what his status is for Ohio State.

Additionally, Penn State lost Dan Dennis-Sutton, which could be a huge loss for the defense. This could be Penn State’s season next weekend.

Speaking of the Buckeyes, Ohio State narrowly beat Nebraska over the weekend, but it wasn't pretty. Will Howard played well and so did the defense, but the running game wasn't helpful.

The good news is, if the defense plays at this level, they could win ugly games against the likes of Penn State and maybe Oregon in a rematch. We'll see it this weekend!

Miami dominated Florida State and went undefeated, and the Hurricanes are clearly the best team in the state of Florida! They are also the best in the ACC so far.

Damien Martinez had a great game while Cam Ward had his worst performance of the year. No matter, he still caught a touchdown on a Philly Special play. The Canes should be favored heading into the ACC title game.

Texas got the win, looked good in spots, but just came out of Vanderbilt with a win. The 27-24 win was probably a little too close, even though Vandy's final touchdown took less than a minute.

The Longhorns get a much-needed bye week before playing teams like Arkansas and Texas A&M, who will surely be circled. They are still on their way to the SEC Championship.

Tennessee had the week off after a win over Alabama and it's clear the Vols are a contender. The rest of the way? Well, there is a path to the CFP.

Heck, Tennessee is in the running for the SEC title if they can top the table here. The game against Georgia could decide that fate.

Notre Dame absolutely dominated its game against a previously undefeated Navy, improving to 7-1 on the season. The Fighting Irish committed six turnovers in this game after the Midshipmen hadn't fumbled once all year.

Riley Leonard accounted for three offensive touchdowns and Jeremiyah Love ran for 102 yards and two scores. The Fighting Irish moved up four spots and landed back in the top 10!

9. BYU (+2)

BYU is still undefeated and the Cougars are ahead in the fight for the Big 12 title. They dominated UCF over the weekend in the Sunshine State.

BYU also heads into a bye week before a rivalry game against Utah, which has its own issues. BUT this “Holy War” will be must-see television.

What on earth did Mike Elko do to become so good at his new place? He comes from Duke and suddenly he has the Aggies at 7-1 and in the thick of the SEC and College Football Playoff race.

A chance at Jimbo Fisher after a win over LSU? Man, cheer us on, coach. The Aggies are a real player here!
