Sean Strickland breaks his silence after Khamzat Chimaev destroyed Robert Whittaker's jaw and demands he takes the title at UFC 308

Sean Strickland wants Khamzat Chimaev to know he is next to fight for the middleweight title.

Strickland defeated Irsael Adeanya to become the 185-pound king in September 2023, but suffered a razor-thin split decision loss in his first defense against Dricus du Plessis, who has since replaced Adesanya to defend the belt.

A rematch is rumored to take place at UFC 312 in Australia on February 9th. Unfortunately for Strickland, nothing is set in stone and now he faces competition from UFC 308 star Khamzat Chimaev.

Chimaev submitted Robert Whittaker in the co-main event of UFC 308 before using his post-fight mic time to demand an immediate title shot, which many fight fans believe he can get after an incredible win in his toughest test yet.

Sean Strickland insists he faces Dricus du Plessis next

Immediately after Chimaev's big win, he received a not-so-nice message from Strickland.

The 33-year-old took to

He tweeted: “Understand one thing…. I'm next in line… It's been said, it's been written… January/February me and Dricus du Plessis are arguing.

“Go back to Chechnya and wait a few months… wait… sorry UAE… you’re not allowed in Chechnya… But hey, crypto scams while you wait.”

Dana White previously claimed Strickland was next in line at 185 pounds, but after UFC 308 he changed his tune.

The UFC boss seemed unsure about who Du Plessis will face next during his post-fight press conference.

“That's a good question. Call me on Tuesday,” White said when asked who will face the South African superstar next.

Strickland seems confident in his position, but White is not, and only time will tell who will take the middleweight title next.

Dana White gives an update on Robert Whittaker's injury

Chimaev defeated Whittaker with a face crank. It's a task not typically honored by UFC fighters, especially against someone as tough as “The Reaper,” but Whittaker made quick work of himself at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

There was immediate talk of a serious jaw injury, which was confirmed when Daniel Cormier shared a graphic image on the UFC 308 broadcast. It was revealed that three of Whittaker's lower teeth had broken due to Chimaev's firm pressure.

“As soon as that happened, I picked up the phone and called the truck,” White said.

“They say, 'Yeah, his jaw exploded.' So I knew what happened because I also didn't know what happened or why he knocked so quickly.

“We said, 'He didn't even have the choke in.'” It was strange. Yes, he dropped his jaw.

“If you do that, it splits and your teeth get completely messed up. Rob has this right now.

White couldn't say for certain what Whittaker's injury was, but he was sure of one thing.

He added: “I don’t know yet. It's not good!

“If your teeth move (in different directions), that’s not good.”
