Why Max Brosmer invites his Gophers teammates to dinner on Thursdays

MINNEAPOLISMax Brosmer has been a leader since the day he stepped foot on the University of Minnesota campus.

The graduate transfer from New Hampshire has gotten the Gophers off to a 4-3 start. He announced Wednesday that on Thursday nights during the season he invites his offensive teammates to dinner at the Freehouse in downtown Minneapolis.

Since the Gophers had a bye last week, Brosmer bought his teammates gift cards to the restaurant.

“They were great fun, the boys love them. Freehouse was absolutely amazing. The family at Freehouse has been absolutely amazing to us. They alternate between waiters and waitresses who now know us all by name. We have our routine of getting the same meal every week,” Brosmer said. “The boys love it, it was a great team experience.”

Why it matters

If there is one position in football that requires leadership, it is quarterback. After the Gophers finished spring football, Brosmer had several receivers in his hometown in Georgia. They coached at his high school and spent time away from football at his family's lake house. They ate together and became friends over the meal.

Brosmer's season

Brosmer completed 68 percent of his passes for 1,456 yards and eight touchdowns with just four interceptions. Daniel Jackson leads the team with 45 catches for 451 yards and a touchdown. Darius Taylor has 29 catches this season. The running back as a weapon in the passing game is a new challenge for the Gophers this season.

What's next?

The Gophers host Maryland on Saturday.
