HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Shell Energy Stadium can accommodate up to 28,000 people and we expect that number for Friday's rally.

People lined up before sunrise to get a spot in the stadium for an event that will include Vice President Kamala Harris, Beyoncé, her mother Tina and Willie Nelson.

Also on the stage tonight are Texans who say the state's restrictive abortion law has negatively impacted their lives. And this issue, women's reproductive rights, is the reason Harris is here tonight and not one of the seven swing states.

Vice President Harris arrived in Houston overnight.

Former President Donald Trump is also campaigning in Texas on Friday. He has visits planned in Austin.

It's not unusual for presidential candidates to make stops in Texas, but it's rare for both candidates to appear so close to Election Day.

Texas is not considered a battleground state, which makes these visits particularly interesting.

Typically you see these types of last-minute campaigns in swing states like Pennsylvania or Arizona.

Harris will be in Houston on Friday, but her campaign has not publicly announced where or when the rally will take place. Supporters who signed up for tickets received emails saying the rally would be held at the Houston Dynamo's Shell Energy Stadium. Entrance is at 3 p.m

Houstonians should be prepared for road closures and traffic in downtown Houston. Security guards are expected to be on high alert, so you may notice an increased police presence.

Harris will be joined by Democratic Senate candidate Collin Allred.

According to local reports, Trump will campaign in Austin with Allred's opponent, Senator Ted Cruz.

Trump will also do an interview on the popular podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience.”

As for previous last-minute presidential campaigns in Texas, George W. Bush visited Dallas the night before the 2004 election and Bill Clinton visited the Lone Star State just six days before the 1992 election.

Election Day 2024 is November 5th. Early voting is already underway in Texas and ends November 1st.
