The Minnesota Vikings received bad news about left tackle Christian Darrisaw's knee injury, which he suffered late in the first half of Thursday's 30-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, tests revealed that Darrisaw will require season-ending surgery to repair his left knee.

The injury occurred with 35 seconds left in the second quarter when Darrisaw blocked a run by Aaron Jones. Rams safety Jaylen McCollough fell into Darrisaw's knee and members of Minnesota's medical staff helped him to the locker room.

Head coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters after the game that he didn't have an update on Darrisaw, but that the team is “fingers crossed that we get some positive news.”

Andrew Krammer from the Minnesota Star-Tribune noticed Darrisaw leaving the stadium on crutches.

This is the fourth time in four NFL seasons that Darrisaw has missed multiple games due to injury. As a rookie, he missed five games in 2021 with a groin injury and ankle sprain, three games in 2022 with a concussion and two games last year with ankle and groin injuries.

Darrisaw entered the week as the ninth-best offensive tackle by ESPN's run-block win rate. Minnesota's offensive line ranked eighth overall in pass block win rate and 19th in run block win rate.

The loss of Darrisaw, who has started every game he has played since Week 6 of the 2021 season, leaves a big hole for the Vikings to fill. Sixth-round rookie Walter Rouse is the backup left tackle on the team's official depth chart, but he has never appeared in a game.

Veteran David Quessenberry played a season-high 25 offensive snaps against the Rams. He made 30 career starts and played 74 games in his seven-year career. Minnesota will likely use him as their starting left tackle for now.

The Vikings have lost their last two games after starting the season 0-5. They have 10 days off before hosting the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football in Week 9 on November 3rd.
