Commanders named possible trade partner for the two-time Super Bowl champion

The Washington Commanders were arguably the most pleasant surprise of the 2024 season so far after posting an unexpected 5-2 record in their first year with rookie signal-caller Jayden Daniels.

Daniels has been incredible in his first seven games and is easily the main reason Washington is atop the NFC East. On the other hand, the Commanders' defense could be better, and improvement on that side of the ball could prove crucial to making the playoffs.

One area where the Commanders could use some help is in the secondary, where they lack reliable options at cornerback. With that in mind, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox wants Washington to negotiate a deal with the New England Patriots for Jonathan Jones.

The Washington Commanders could also get in Jones' way. Washington is a contender at 5-2, but ranks just 23rd in net yards allowed per pass attempt.

Jones is in the midst of a bad season, but he's also playing on one of the worst teams in the league, which certainly doesn't help his cause. It's safe to say that with an improved supporting cast, he should be better on a contending team.

Still, Jones has a better coverage grade than anyone who has started at the position in Washington this season, and he has proven throughout his career that he can be a viable starter at worst.

He would immediately provide an upgrade to Washington's lackluster group, bringing valuable experience with more than eight seasons of NFL experience and a pair of Super Bowl rings on his finger.

The 31-year-old cornerback is in the final year of his two-year, $19 million contract, and while he doesn't expect to fetch much in a trade, the Patriots should get everything they can for him beforehand He enters free agency in 2025.
