TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Last night's cold front will result in high temperatures today about 20 to 25 degrees cooler than yesterday. Temperatures are more typical of late October and will continue tomorrow before warming up again on Sunday into early next week. After heavy rain in some areas last night, including 1.39 inches near Billiards in Topeka, the next chance of rain is from a storm system next Wednesday.

Take action:

  1. Spotty frost is not out of the question both mornings this weekend with lows in the mid to upper 30s. Freezing is unlikely to occur but should continue to be monitored.
  2. Winds will be a factor early in the work week, with gusts of 40-45 mph likely on Monday and Tuesday. If you are conducting planned burns this weekend due to the weaker winds, PLEASE make sure the flames are set correctly. Any fires that flare up again early next week will be difficult to control until winds ease Tuesday evening and rain begins Wednesday, as winds will remain strong Monday evening.

The next 8 days will bring a wide range of weather conditions, with the exception of temperatures dropping below freezing. In the short term there may be a few clouds late afternoon into the evening, but the better chance of clouds is late Saturday and Saturday evening. Regardless of the cloud cover, there will be no rain and will not have a major impact on temperatures.

Today: Sunny. Highs in the mid 60s to around 70°. Wind force 10-20 N, gusts up to 30 mph.

Tonight: Clear. Lows will be in the mid to upper 30s. North wind about 5 mph.

Morning: Sunny. Highs in the mid 60s. Wind force E 5-10 miles per hour.

Sunday: Another morning will start in the mid 30s to around 40° before warming back up to the mid 70s. Wind speed S 5-15 miles per hour.

Temperatures will be much warmer as we begin the work week, and due to strong winds and increasing humidity, temperatures will be in the 60s in most locations, with lows (near average highs for this time of year) and highs in the 80s ranges, with possible low 90s.

Cooling is expected due to Wednesday's rain, with a cold front Wednesday evening bringing seasonal but (at this point) dry conditions for Halloween. It will remain in the 60s Friday. There is uncertainty regarding the chance of rain this weekend.
