The Boston Red Sox stayed relaxed as their epic comeback in the 2004 American League Championship Series returned to Yankee Stadium.

However, the Red Sox apparently had some help in that regard.

Former Red Sox first baseman Kevin Millar told a story about how the team skipped batting practice before Game 6 and the New York Yankees one in the new Netflix documentary called “The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox.” Montages of their story played the scoreboard. Instead, the Red Sox went back to their clubhouse and passed around Gatorade trophies.

But it wasn't the hydrating sports drink or the water in those cups.

“Walked past the office of Lou Cucuzza, the Yankees clubhouse manager, great guy. Huge bottle of Jack Daniel’s,” Millar said. “Yeah… Gatorade cups, we took all the shots.”

Johnny Damon joked that it was another of Millar's “amazing ideas,” but Millar had no trouble getting his teammates to join in despite so much at stake. Derek Lowe said this would be accepted in the Red Sox clubhouse.

“There are a lot of myths about teams doing this or that, but if you wanted to fire one before, no one judged that,” Lowe said.

The Red Sox didn't show the nervousness that was evident in the Yankees, and their Game 6 victory marked the first time in MLB history that a team forced a Game 7 after losing the series 3-0 was behind.

According to Millar, Boston stuck to tradition in Game 7, claiming the Gatorade Cups again before completing their comeback.
