How to play Connections

Connections is an easy game to learn thanks to its simple but fun rules. To start, players are given a set of 16 words in a grid format. Players must then divide four groups of four words into categories based on a common connection.

The categories are color coded depending on difficulty level and range from yellow to green to blue to purple. Purple is considered the most difficult color to match and yellow is the easiest.

When users are ready to submit a response, they click on the words they want and click Send. If the words are correct, they flash the category color and are removed from the board. However, if they are incorrect, they remain gray and remain on the board.

For example, in Wednesday's puzzle for the 500-game milestone, the words “beret,” “leprechaun,” “lettuce,” and “thumb” were linked to the category “Green ___.” This was a green category.

Luckily, the game has no time limit, so if you want you can spend an entire day thinking about your next submission. However, players only have four guesses before the answers are revealed.
