I've reduced my streaming subscriptions to just one over the last year, and that's Apple TV+. It has a few advantages, from a reasonable price for 4K quality to a more limited catalog that makes it easier to choose my next show – making it the best streaming service on the market for my money.

However, the real reason I still have a subscription is for shows like Severance paythe sci-fi bolt from the blue that captivated a slew of viewers when the first season premiered in 2022. It's probably the best show I've ever seen on Apple TV+, despite stiff competition. Now the second season is just a few months away and the first proper trailer has just been released.

It looks like we'll be delving back into the empty corporate quarters of Lumon's underbelly as Mark (Adam) is reintegrated into the workspace – complete with a group of new, blank-faced colleagues who seem to know him well. The trailer ends with some classic shenanigans from Milchick (Tramell Tillman), who greets Mark with an unknown name, a cake, and balloons with his face on them.

So does this mean Lumon is trying to squeeze through the revelations made late in the first season? Severance pay? Is Mark sprinting around to find his old colleagues to help him free her, or has he been tricked into a more obsequious submission?

It's an excellent trailer that leaves a lot up in the air and doesn't just spoil much of the season's overarching plot, which makes me pretty happy. Still, there's obviously a lot we don't know, and there's still plenty of time until the show returns on January 17th.

I can also confidently predict that the show will delve deeper into its core issues of work-life balance and ethics, as we hopefully learn a little more about what Lumon actually does. This falls in line with the central puzzle of how the severance process works and whether it actually works as described.

This mixture of philosophy with immediate tension and even fear was the reason Severance pay I was so captivated by the first season that I can't wait to dive into the second.
