Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton interviews former Barack Obama

Barack Obama has a problem with the NBA All-Star Game and told Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton about it.

“You have to be a little more proud of this All-Star Game. This All-Star Game is a bust, man,” Obama told Haliburton, saying he wouldn’t watch it anymore.

Haliburton could only respond: “Larry Bird came in and gave us a speech about taking this more seriously.”

“And it didn’t work,” Obama replied.

The 2024 All-Star Game was played in Indianapolis, with the East defeating the West 211-186 in a game where there was little real competition. Even NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was disappointed.

Haliburton interviewed Obama on the “Young Man and the Three” podcast. It's a reimagined version of the “Old Man and the Three” pod previously hosted by JJ Redick, who now coaches the Los Angeles Lakers. Several NBA players will host in the future.

Haliburton and Obama touched on a lot of topics in the hour-long interview, mostly about basketball: Obama's favorite players, the Olympics, pickup games with NBA players, helping coach one of his daughter's teams.

Obama said he enjoyed watching the Pacers: “I like the way the Pacers play. … The beautiful game and the ball bangs. You don’t run back and dribble all the time.”

But added one criticism: “You need to improve this defense a little bit.”
