Walmart employee found dead in store walk-in oven: police

Canadian authorities are investigating what led to the death of a 19-year-old Walmart employee who was found in a walk-in oven in the store's bakery section.

The Halifax Police Department released a statement regarding the Oct. 19 incident at the Canadian Walmart store.

Officers were called to the store 6990 Mumford Road in Halifax, around 9:30 p.m. to investigate the sudden death of a 19-year-old woman whose body was found in the large walk-in oven.

“The investigation is complex and involves multiple partner agencies. An investigation of this nature can take a significant amount of time,” Halifax police said in a statement.

The woman's identity has not been released. However, The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) first reported that the woman was a member of the local Sikh community.

A speaker for Walmart sent a statement to Fox News Digital saying the store “remains closed until further notice.”

“We are heartbroken and our deepest thoughts are with our employee and his family. Our focus remains on taking care of our associates and ensuring they have the support they need,” a Walmart spokesperson said in the statement.

“As police have advised, this is a very complex matter and investigations are ongoing,” the statement continued.

Balbir Singh, secretary of the Maritime Sikh Society, told CBC on Tuesday that the society contacted the 19-year-old victim's mother and learned that the woman and her mother were originally from India and came to Canada two ago up to three years.

“It is a truly tragic incident and everyone is deeply hurt and we are awaiting the police investigation,” Singh said. “We would like to know what happened to this young woman.”

Police are urging the public to pay close attention to opinions circulating in connection with the investigation.

“We urge the public to exercise caution when sharing speculative information on social media. Please be aware of the impact speculation could have on the woman’s family, colleagues and loved ones,” police said.
