Barack Obama rapped Eminem's signature hit “Lose Yourself” to a crowd in Detroit during a campaign rally for Kamala Harris.

He was preceded by Eminem himself, who told the crowd in his hometown: “It's important to use your voice, I encourage everyone to get out and vote, please… I don't think anyone wants an America where people are worried are.” about the retaliation of what people will do if you express your opinion. I believe Vice President Harris supports a future for this country in which these and many other freedoms are protected and preserved.”

Obama opened his subsequent speech by saying, “I have to say, I've done a lot of rallies, so I don't normally get nervous, but I felt like I was kind of following Eminem,” before launching into the opening lines of Lose Yourself: ” I notice my palms are sweaty, my knees are weak, my arms are heavy, I've already vomited on my sweater, mom's spaghetti, I'm nervous, but on the surface I look calm and ready to drop bombs, but I keep forgetting…”

He joked that he thought Eminem would be performing and he would be a guest star, adding, “I love Eminem.”

The former president is an avowed music fan and shares his favorite songs twice a year in official posts on his social media. The summer 2024 selection included songs from contemporary pop names like Beyoncé, Tyla and Rema, as well as older tracks from Nick Drake, the Supremes and cosmic jazz musician Pharoah Sanders.

Obama continued to criticize Donald Trump in his speech, recalling how Trump had expressed doubts about the 2020 election results. “Because Donald Trump was willing to spread lies about voter fraud in Michigan, protesters came pounding on the windows and chanting, 'Let us in.' Stop counting.' Poll workers inside are being intimidated…all because Donald Trump couldn't accept defeat…there is absolutely no evidence that this man thinks about anyone but himself.”

He questioned Trump's mental fitness for the role of president, saying: “You would be worried if grandpa behaved like that. But this is coming from someone who wants uncontrolled power.”

He also referenced Trump's stunt earlier this week in which he worked in a McDonald's kitchen and drive-thru window that was closed to the public. Harris, he said, “worked at McDonald's while she was in college to pay her expenses. She did not pretend to work at McDonald’s when the company was closed.”

Tim Walz, who also spoke at the rally, called the stunt “cosplay…fake orders for fake customers.” He also appealed to free speech and said Trump was “talking about sending the military against people who don't support him. He's naming names.”
