The Knicks open the regular season with a 132-109 loss to the Celtics

The Knicks shot an impressive 55 percent from the field and simply couldn't stop the Celtics, who set the single-game record for three-pointers made in their 132-109 loss to the defending champions on Tuesday night in Boston.

Here are the takeaways…

-While the Celtics began their title defense, the Knicks' defense was particularly lacking early on. Boston shot 59 percent from the field, including 10 of 17 from three players in the first quarter. At halftime, the Celtics were shooting 55.1 percent from the field and 53 percent from three. The Celtics' 17 three-pointers were one shy of the NBA record for three-pointers made in the first half.

On the other hand, the Knicks were just 4 of 14 from downtown (28.6 percent).

Those downtown numbers continued to favor Boston. With about seven minutes left, the Celtics tied the record of 29 three-pointers made, but they just couldn't make those record-setting three-pointers fall.

At one point, the Celtics shot about 60 percent from downtown but missed their final 13 three-point attempts, dropping to 47.5 percent.

– Last season, the Knicks were one of the best rebounding teams, especially when it came to offensive rebounds. But on Tuesday they were outpaced by rebounds. At halftime, Boston had 26 rebounds compared to the Knicks' 16. New York also only had one offensive rebound compared to the Celtics' six.

The final rebounding numbers: Knicks – 41 (five offense) Celtics – 46 (11 offense)

Karl Anthony cities had a quiet Knicks debut, scoring 12 points on 5 of 9 shooting (1 of 2 from three), as well as seven rebounds and three assists. As Shaquille O'Neal pointed out during TNT's halftime show, KAT was passive in its offensive approach, especially in the paint.

Mikal Bridges had a very difficult first half in his Knicks debut. He was held scoreless and allowed in the first half Jayson Tatumwhose main defender was Bridges, scored 25 points.

The former Net would find his breakthrough in the second half, scoring 16 points on a combined 7-of-13 shooting (2-of-7 from three).

Tatum scored a game-high 37 on 14 of 18 shots. Jaylen Brown23 points, Derrick White (24), Jrue holiday (18) and Al Horford (11) all achieved double-digit results.

Tom Thibodeau's rotation was nine players in the first half. -What would the Knicks have been without McBride? The young guard started 5-5 and was the Knicks' only option for much of the first half.

McBride scored 22 points on 8 of 10 shooting (4 of 5 from three).

Jalen Brunson scored 22 points on 9 of 14 shooting in 24:30 minutes on the floor. Josh Hart scored 12 and OG Anunoby scored four points.

Game MVP: The Boston Celtics

Yes, the Celtics did everything well. They scored, rebounded and defended well. They broke the three-game record in a single season. That was impressive for a team that looked like it was determined to win this game.
