Jason Sudeikis gives advice as Ted Lasso before the WNBA Finals

Jason Sudeikis had some encouraging advice for WNBA players before the finale of Game 5 – delivered in his typical Southern style as Ted Lasso.

Commentator Carolyn Peck, on the ESPN panel before the game between the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx, asked the Emmy winner if he had any advice for the athletes in the spirit of his beloved football coaching figure: “Give me your best Ted Lasso- Quote, statement that you would give to the New York Liberty,” she demanded.

“Hey,” Sudeikis began, adopting the laconic, brisk speech typical of the cheerful leader. “Shot layups. Don't let them shoot layups. So simple. Let's go, ladies. Let’s cook.”

Pretty much what audiences would expect from the good-natured straight shooter.

Sudeikis has been a long-time Liberty fan and is pictured courtside at games throughout the year. In August, Sudeikis attended the team's game against the visiting Dallas Wings, danced Ted Lasso and then danced to NSYNC's “Bye Bye Bye,” which was featured in a season two episode.

In overtime, Liberty won its first WNBA title with a final score of 67-62.

As Deadline previously exclusively reported, Ted Lasso saw major progress in the release of the fourth season when cast members Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift had their options picked up by the series' studio, Warner Bros. Television. In the latest update on a new episode of the popular Apple TV+ comedy, WBTV boss Channing Dungey hinted that the studio and producers may be exploring possible filming dates. Although no other names have been signed yet, she added: “We're in early production discussions right now, but it's exciting.”
