Seven high schools in the Washoe County School District (WCSD) were ranked among the top 25 public high schools in Nevada, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2024 annual rankings. The report evaluated nearly 18,000 public high schools in the United States.

The top ranked WCSD schools are as follows:

  • Academy of Arts, Careers & Technology (AACT) ranked 3rd
  • Galena High School, No. 8
  • Reno High School, No. 12
  • TMCC High School ranked 13th
  • Incline High School ranked 14th
  • Damonte Ranch High School, #24
  • McQueen High School, No. 25

“This study ranks schools based on their performance on state assessments and how well we are preparing their students for college,” said WCSD Superintendent Joe Ernst. “I applaud the efforts of our staff, students and families in providing our students with the support and resources they need to succeed, and I think we should all be proud of the study’s findings. We still have more work to do, and we look forward to continued improvement in academic outcomes across our district.”

Schools were ranked based on six factors: college readiness, state assessment competency, state assessment performance, underserved student achievement, college curriculum breadth and graduation rate. These factors consider various metrics, including AP and IB exam scores, state assessment scores, and graduation rates.
