The Houston Texans defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars in a thrilling Week 4 showdown in the AFC South

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Texans took care of their home business with a 24-20 victory over the winless Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon.

Early in the first quarter, Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence connected with fellow wideout Brian Thomas Jr. for a 2-yard touchdown to secure an early 7-0 lead over Houston. The Texans responded after wide receiver Stefon Diggs scored a 6-yard touchdown to tie the game 7-7. Jacksonville managed to regain the lead after a 41-yard field goal attempt by placekicker Cam Little.

Early in the second quarter, CJ Stroud found wideout Nico Collins for the 3-yard touchdown, giving Houston its first lead of the game at 13-10. With just under four minutes left in the second quarter, Jags' Little answered with a 52-yard field goal attempt, cutting the lead to 14-13. Houston then scored a 30-yard field goal with five seconds left in the first half, kicked by placekicker Ka'imi Fairbairn.

At halftime, the Texans led the Jags 17-13. Stroud completed 15 of 19 passes for 215 yards and a TD for the Texans, while Diggs finished with four catches for 59 yards. Texas running back Cam Akers replaced running backs Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce, who were sidelined due to injuries.

Early in the third quarter, Jags' Lawrence connected with wide receiver Christian Kirk for the 8-yard touchdown to give the Texans a 20-17 lead.

With 18 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Texans' Stroud made a crucial play with the 1-yard TD completion to Dare Ogunbowale that gave the Texans a 24-20 lead. All in all, Stroud recorded an impressive performance with 345 yards thrown for the game.

Despite the Texans' win over the Jags, Houston continued to commit more than 11 penalties, which was evident in the last two games. Houston secured the victory despite the threat of injury as several starters, including Tank Dell, Jimmie Ward, Mixon and Pierce, were sidelined.

Next Sunday the Texans will host the Buffalo Bills at NRG Stadium at 12 p.m.
