ALLEN PARK – The Detroit Lions have taken their first step toward improving the injury situation on the defensive line by signing edge rusher Isaiah Thomas from Cincinnati's practice squad.

Thomas is a former Oklahoma star who was taken by Cleveland in the seventh round of the 2022 draft. He had nine tackles, two quarterback hits and one sack in 10 games with the Browns this year. He was assigned to the practice squad in 2023 and then moved to Cincinnati's practice squad this season. He has not appeared in a game since his rookie season.

Thomas will help provide some depth after the spate of injuries that have rocked Detroit's pass rush. NFL sack leader Aidan Hutchinson suffered a broken left foot in Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys and faces four to six months of rehabilitation, although the Lions hope he can return in time for the Super Bowl if they make it far without their best Defender.

Marcus Davenport, John Cominsky and Derrick Barnes are also out on the sidelines with long-term injuries, while defensive tackle Kyle Peko is “likely” out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle he suffered in Dallas, and fellow defensive tackle Brodric Martin is too Did not play this season due to an injury he sustained in the preseason.
