WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Open Streets ICT will take over downtown Wichita this weekend along with several other events including Bloktoberfest and the annual Prairie Fire Marathon.

Between all three downtown events, the city of Wichita is expecting thousands of visitors this year. This will increase traffic throughout the city and lead to road closures throughout the city center.

The busy weekend begins with Blocktoberfest, which takes place on Fridays and Saturdays in Naftzerger Park. Some of the most popular events include the Vienna Dog Race, the Papa Bod competition and a beer festival.

The 45th Prairie Fire Marathon Starts on Sunday at 7:10 a.m. The starting line is at Seneca and Burton and all races end at Riverfront Stadium.

Open Streets ICT also takes place on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Four miles of Douglas Avenue, from College Hill to Delano, are closed to traffic so residents can enjoy biking, walking, running and various local vendors, including food trucks and live music.

Pets are also welcome, but must be kept on a leash at the event. There will be watering stations for dogs along the route.

Douglas Avenue will be closed from Glenn Street to Roosevelt Street starting at 10 a.m. All roads will reopen on Sunday at 6 p.m.

During the event, traffic may cross Douglas Avenue on the following streets:

ICT Open Streets took place in Nomar County earlier this year. This is the seventh year the City of Wichita has hosted the event.
