Kentucky Basketball: Travis Perry is happy to be a hero in his home state

The Kentucky Wildcats have an entirely new roster and most of the names will be familiar to many across the BBN by now. However, there is one name that most fans have been following for quite some time: freshman guard Travis Perry.

Perry, a Lyon County native, committed to UK at the beginning of the class of 2024 but is best known in the bluegrass for his prolific success during his high school career.

Now he's excited to rock the Kentucky uniform. He was recently featured in a conversation with Club Blue and asked what motivates him to stay at home instead of getting involved elsewhere.

“Being from Kentucky, it has always been my dream to play in UK,” Perry said. “When Coach Pope got the job and saw the system he runs, the type of person he is and how passionate he is, it’s truly incredible.”

He's also passionate about being a hometown hero.

“I think somewhere else in the world there would probably be a villain on the loose. But playing in Kentucky and being a hero at home is something you can’t experience anywhere else,” he said. “Having that, being the hero at home in front of the Big Blue Nation fans, that’s something that’s better than being a villain on the street.”

Perry has seemingly put himself in the rotation this season, as has the coaching staff, and his teammates have been adamant about how great his shooting is. As long as his defense can keep up, expect Perry to make a lasting impression for the Cats this season.
