Rebels star wide receiver Tre Harris status update

Rebels star wide receiver Tre Harris status update

3 minutes, 27 seconds Read

Ole Miss wide receiver Tre Harris played an integral role in the success of the Rebels' offense through the first six weeks of the season, leading the FBS in receiving yards.

The Louisiana native is up to 885 receiving yards this season, making him the No. 1 prospect in college football, but his status for Saturday night against No. 13 LSU has been in question all week.

Now there's an update on his availability, with Harris “on track to be available,” according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.

Harris left the Rebels' Week 6 showdown against South Carolina with an ankle injury after recording three receptions for 81 yards

“We don’t really go into detail about it. “He didn’t finish the first half and wasn’t close to coming back in the second half,” Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said Monday. “He certainly wouldn't play today, so we have to get the other guys. “We have to be ready and perform better than we did in the second half when we got three points – now we only threw one pass in the fourth quarter . That makes us move people to other spots if he's out, so we're preparing for that and getting ready to play without him.”

It's clear that the LSU secondary has been a thorn in the defense's side this season as the Rebels look to exploit the area in Week 7.

Lane Kiffin's group understands the challenge ahead and the amount of game planning that needs to be done before the prime-time SEC matchup.

“It's a big week for us preparing to play against a talented and well-coached team in a challenging venue,” Kiffin said. “Our boys are looking forward to the challenge that last week’s away game brings. We have a lot to do and a lot of things to improve, especially on offense. I felt good in two of the three phases on Saturday and our goal is to play a complete game this week.”

With Harris on track to suit up for Ole Miss, it gives the Rebels their best offensive weapon for the crucial SEC showdown with significant College Football Playoff implications.

The No. 13 Tigers will be rested after a bye week after having a chance to bounce back in Week 6.

The Tigers return freshman phenom running back Caden Durham after he suffered a foot injury in Week 5 against South Alabama.

In LSU's game against South Alabama, it was Durham who took care of business, finishing the first half with 217 all-purpose yards (128 rushing yards and 89 receiving yards) and two touchdowns before passing before the end of the second quarter Sideline went.

Durham suffered a foot injury and missed the remainder of the game.

“He's doing great. 100 percent,” Kelly said last Tuesday. “He’s doing pull-ups right now.”

After the Week 5 contest against South Alabama, Kelly said the program did not believe the injury would be a long-term injury.

“We don’t think it’s a serious injury,” LSU head coach Brian Kelly said after Saturday’s game.

On Monday, Kelly announced that Durham will practice this week and it is possible.

Aside from Durham, there will be two LSU wide receivers to watch in Saturday's status report in Chris Hilton Jr. and CJ Daniels. The receivers are listed as questionable for Week 7, and with redshirt freshman wideout Kyle Parker out for the season, their presence is urgently needed.

No. 13 LSU will face No. 9 Ole Miss at Tiger Stadium on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. CT.
