TOPSFIELD – A new pumpkin champion was crowned at the Topsfield Fair on Friday, with a pumpkin from Massachusetts taking home the top prize.

Steve Connolly of Sharon won the 40th annual All New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off. His giant pumpkin tipped the scales at 2,211 pounds. This is the fourth time Connolly has won the competition, having previously won in 2000, 2010 and 2016. It was said at the show that he was now the winningest breeder in the history of the competition.

Despite the enormous weight, the pumpkin did not surpass the fair record set in 2022 with a pumpkin weighing 2,480 pounds.

Visitors to the fair can view the giant pumpkin in the fruit and vegetable building from now until the end of the fair on October 14th.

The Topfield Fair, which has been running for 206 years, kicked off on Friday with thousands of people taking part in the annual autumn celebration. Whether it was taking part in the pumpkin weigh-in or trying out delicacies like apple chips or fried dough, there was a lot going on on Friday evening.

Organizers and police are also urging people to be careful when buying tickets Internet fraud for fake tickets.
