3 ideal free agents New Orleans Pelicans should target after recent injury

The New Orleans Pelicans' season began in a way that encapsulates the last few years: A massive offseason addition suffered an injury that will rule him out for the foreseeable future.

Star shooting guard Dejounte Murray suffered a broken hand in the opening game against the Chicago Bulls and could now be out for weeks or months.

Murray wasn't very efficient from the field but still had a solid debut. The guard scored 14 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. Staying just two boards shy of a triple-double is impressive, and losing it will hurt.

The injury will likely lead to players like Jordan Hawkins and Jose Alvarado taking on larger roles on offense, but the Pelicans could also tap into the free agent pool to supplement their roster with the opening.

Here are three players New Orleans should contact if they decide to go this route:

It's actually very shocking that Fultz is even available at this point. While he may not fill up his stat sheet as quickly as you would expect from a first overall pick, he can definitely contribute to winning basketball.

He struggled with injuries throughout his ill-fated career, but enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence with the Orlando Magic. He has proven that he can play an important role in a team and contribute.

During his five seasons with the Magic, he averaged 11.6 points with 4.8 assists and 3.4 rebounds.

Walker has playing experience with Murray, so he could be an interesting target both during the injury and when the time comes for the guard to return.

He signed with the Boston Celtics this offseason, but did not make the opening day roster and was recently cut. He is a three-and-D player who can fill in at shooting guard.

While the 25-year-old isn't a perfect replacement, don't expect him to get double-digit assists very often, but he could still give the team a boost.

Another player recently released before the start of the season, Flynn is an interesting defender who never really had a chance to make an impact.

He has a slot three-point shot and can rack up both assists and rebounds off the bench.

The 26-year-old wouldn't be much more than a depth player, but could compete for some minutes left in the guard rotation.
