Tesla CEO Elon Musk expressed confidence that Donald Trump may return to the White House, early forecasts show.

In a recent post on the social media platform X, Musk shared a photo of himself with Trump taken at the former president's election watch party in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.

He expressed confidence that Donald Trump would emerge as the winner of the 2024 US presidential election. He also shared an edited photo of him in the Oval Office of the White House, carrying a sink into the room, along with the tongue-in-cheek caption, “Let that sink in.”

Musk famously used the phrase “let that sink in” when he bought microblogging platform Twitter for a staggering $44 billion. To mark the occasion, he even entered Twitter's San Francisco office with a kitchen sink, symbolizing that the deal had finally “gone through” for everyone.

As for the US presidential race, the counting of votes is currently underway after polls closed in almost all states on Tuesday (local time).

In particular, Musk has repeatedly publicly expressed his support for former President Trump.

He donated $75 million to Trump's Political Action Committee to help pave the way for his return to the White House. He even hosted an X-Space with the former president and appeared at some of his campaign events.

The Tesla CEO had even expressed his willingness to take office after Trump indicated that he would consider Elon Musk for a Cabinet role or an advisory position if he won.

The Republican Party has now gained a majority in the US Senate as the presidential election count is underway.

Current projections show Republicans holding 51 seats in the 100-member U.S. Senate, while Democrats have 42 seats. It is noteworthy that this time 28 Democratic seats and 38 Republican seats were not up for election.

The US Electoral College, which has a total of 538 votes, includes 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 100 seats in the Senate and 3 seats in Washington DC

In addition to the 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 34 seats in the Senate were also up for election. The entire House of Representatives is being re-elected, while a third of the Senate seats are contested.

According to current projections from Politico, Donald Trump is in the lead with 230 electoral votes, while Kamala Harris has 210. In the race for the House of Representatives, the Republicans are ahead with 178 seats, while the Democrats were able to secure 146.

The 2024 US presidential election is shaping up to be one of the most significant in recent history, with the outcome depending on several key battleground states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Trump, who was the 45th president from 2017 to 2021, is seeking a return to the White House.
